The great Russian pianist Sviatoslav Richter wrote one of the richest chapters in the annals of pianism with a legendary career embracing more repertoire than perhaps any pianist before or since. Many pianists and critics thought of Richter as the greatest, most comprehensive pianist of the 20th century. Richter’s art easily encompassed large swaths of the solo, chamber, and concerto literature. His playing combined a staggering technique with profound interpretative insight that produced legendary interpretations of the standard repertoire.
